How To Make A 2D Animation With Video Igniter
Video Igniter will guide you through these 7 steps to turn your idea into a custom 2D animated video:
1). Contact Us For A Quote
When you’re ready to evaluate 2D animation producers for your project, get in touch with our team by sending us a message or scheduling a call with our production team.
We will spend time learning about the 2D animation you want us to make and develop a production plan and budget to bring it to life.
Once we agree to the scope of the project, you will receive a production agreement to sign and an invoice for 50% of your production budget.
2). Write The Script
When we make a 2D animation, the first deliverable we create for you is the video’s script. To help us write the script, our writers will send you a series of questions or schedule a time to meet with you virtually to learn the following types of information:
- Who is your target audience?
- What problems do they experience?
- How do you solve their problem(s)?
- What key messages do you want to include in your 2D animation?
- What do you want viewers to do when they’re done watching your 2D animation?
With this information in hand, our copywriters will develop the first draft of your video’s script. You will receive a digital copy to review with your team. We recommend you add your comments directly on the script document. Then, our writers will revise and polish your script.
You will receive the 2nd draft to review and approve with your team. If additional edits are needed, let us know and we’ll continue to work with you to revise and polish your script until you love it.
3). Create The Storyboard
Next, it’s time to make the storyboard for your 2D animation. The storyboard functions like a visual blueprint when we make your 2D animation. It provides instructions for our illustrators and animators so they know exactly what to create.
Each page of your storyboard includes:
- A sentence from your script.
- A rough mockup of the scene.
- Bullet point instructions that describe how elements will move in the scene.
When you review the storyboard, focus on the visual storytelling elements. Specifically:
- Do they enhance the viewer’s understanding of your key messages?
- Are there important details we need to include that we may have omitted?
Add your comments directly on the storyboard. We’ll integrate your edits and share the 2nd draft of the storyboard for you to review and approve.
4). Record The VoiceOver
After the storyboard is approved, you will receive a selection of voiceover auditions to listen to. Let us know which option is your favorite and we’ll hire that person to record the full narration for your animation.
You will receive a copy of the full voiceover to listen to. Let us know if there are any parts of the voiceover you would like to get rerecorded and we’ll coordinate the edits with the voiceover talent.
5). Select The Soundtrack
You will also receive a selection of soundtrack options to review. Give them a listen and let us know which option best fits the spirit of your brand. We’ll take care of acquiring the appropriate licenses so we can legally use the music when we make your 2D animation.
6). Create The Illustrations
Once your storyboard is approved, Video Igniter’s art director will oversee the creation of custom concept art for your 2D animation. The art director will review your brand guidelines & style references and then create multiple pieces of concept art based on scenes from your storyboard.
When you review the concept art, please share your honest feedback. Let us know what you like and dislike about each concept. This way we can polish your favorite visual concept until it’s perfect.
Then, our illustration team will create all of the custom illustrations needed to make your 2D animation. You will receive digital copies of all of the illustrations to review with your team. Let us know what edits you’d like to see and our illustrators will update your art accordingly.
You will get another opportunity to review all of the art and request edits (if needed) before we make your 2D animation.
7). Make Your 2D Animation
Now that everything is approved, we can finally make a 2D animation for you! The animation process takes about 1 week for each minute of content we produce. If your video is longer than a few minutes, we may add additional animators to the project to speed up the animation process.
When the first draft is complete, you will receive a link to download a copy of your 2D animation.
We recommend you share your 2D animation with members of your target audience so you can see how the content of your video resonates with them.
Collect everyone’s feedback and send it our way. We’ll integrate your edits and render out the final draft of your 2D animation.
After we finish making your 2D animation, our audio team will take an extra day to add subtle sound effects and master the audio levels so the voiceover and soundtrack sound loud and clear.
