How to Work With 2D Animation Studios
Now, let’s do a quick overview of the production process so that you know what to expect after you hire a 2D animation studio.
1). Get A Quote
To get things started, reach out to each of the 2D animation studios you’re interested in hiring and request a quote for your project. Be sure to include information like:
✅ What your video is going to be used for.
✅ What visual style do you want to use?
✅ Who is responsible for the script & storyboard?
✅ How soon do you need the final draft?
✅ How long will your animation be?
After you review the quotes and select one of the 2D animation studios you want to hire, let them know you’re ready to begin production. They will send a production contract for you to sign and an invoice for the first 50% of your production budget.
2). Script
Our team will spend time learning about the target audience for your video and ask you about which key messages you want to feature in your animation. Then, we’ll create the first draft of your script.
You will receive a downloadable copy of your script to review with your team. Collect everyone’s feedback and share it with us. Our studio will update the script for your animation and share a revised copy for you to review and approve.
3). Storyboard
Next, we turn your script into a storyboard. The storyboard acts like a blueprint so our studio understands what to create when we make your 2D animation. Each page includes a sketch or mockup of the scene, a list of animation instructions and a sentence from your script.
You will receive a downloadable copy of the storyboard to review with your team. While you review the storyboard, please help us by ensuring the storyboard documents all of the details our studio will need to have in order to accurately create your 2D animation.
4). Concept Art
After the storyboard is approved, our art director will review your brand guidelines and style references. Then, they’ll create multiple pieces of visual concept art for your 2D animation.
Let us know which concept you prefer. You also have the opportunity to collaborate with our art director to revise your favorite concept until it’s perfect!
5). VoiceOver
You will receive several voiceover auditions to listen to. Let us know which voice talent is your favorite and we’ll hire them to record the narration for your animation. You get an opportunity to listen to the full recording and request revisions before approving the audio for production.
6). Illustrations
After your concept art is approved, our studio’s illustration team will use it to create all of the custom illustrations for your animation. You get an opportunity to review all of the art and request edits before approving the art for production.
7). Music
Music is a great way to set the tone and enhance key moments in your animation. Our team will select several soundtracks that will fit great in your animation. You get to listen to them and let us know which one is best. After you select your favorite, we’ll take care of acquiring the broadcast license so that we can legally use the music in your 2D animation.
8). Animation
Now that everything is approved, our studio can animate your video! The animation phase of production takes a little over 1 week for each minute of animation that is being created. As soon as the first draft is ready, you will receive a link to download your animation.
Give the first draft a detailed review with your team and members of your target audience. Collect everyone’s feedback and send it our way. Our 2D studio will integrate your edits and render out the final draft of your 2D animation.
2D Animation Studio Budget Saving Tips!
Looking for ways to save money on your production budget? Combine these tips to save $1,000 or more off the cost of hiring a 2D animation studio.
1). Start Production ASAP
Most animations take at least 4-8 weeks to create. We can make your animation quicker, but rush delivery can increase your production budget by 25%-50% or more. We recommend starting production as soon as possible so that you don’t have to pay extra rush delivery production costs.
2). Record The VoiceOver
Each voiceover used in your animation costs between $50-$500 to record. You can skip this production cost by recording your own voiceover at home for free. Just watch 1:31 in this video to learn how! No need to buy any expensive equipment or software.
3). Write The Script
Most 2D animation studios charge at least $500 to create a 60 second script. If you’re interested in writing the script yourself, you can skip this production cost! Download Video Igniter’s free script writing template to get started. Our studio will happily review your script and provide feedback before we turn your script into a 2D animation.
4). Find Free, Royalty-Free Music
A commercial stock music license can cost upwards of $400. Writing a custom song costs several thousands of dollars. And licensing a popular song… that’ll run you at least $10,000. If you want to get around paying for a broadcast license to use music in your animation, you can source royalty free music from sites like Incompetech and Facebook’s Sound Collection.
5). Create The Storyboard
2D animation studios are happy to help you create the storyboard for your animation. However, if you want to create it yourself, you can save an additional $500 for every minute of animation we create for you. Download our free storyboard template and review the included storyboard creation guide for quick tips to help you get started. Our team will happily review your storyboard and provide feedback before we use it to create your animation.
