After we receive payment for the first 50% of your video’s budget, our commercial video production company will begin work on your video’s script. To create the script, Video Igniter’s copywriters will ask you the following types of questions:

  • Who is your target audience?
  • What key messages do you want to include in your commercial?
  • What do you want viewers to do when they’re done watching your commercial?
  • What problem does your product/service solve for your target audience?

With this information on hand, our writers will develop the first draft of the script for your commercial. When the first draft is ready, you will receive a digital copy of the script to review with your team. Add your comments and feedback directly on the script.

Let us know when all the feedback is in and we will revise and polish your script until you love it.

3). Storyboard

Next, our commercial video production company will turn your script into a storyboard. The storyboard functions like a blueprint for your animated commercial. Each page contains the following instructions for our illustrators and animators:

  1. A sentence from your script.
  2. A sketch or mockup of the scene.
  3. A list of assets needed to create the scene.
  4. A descriptive list of actions that explain how things will move during the scene.

You will receive a digital copy of the storyboard to review with your team. While you review the storyboard, focus on the visual storytelling elements. Do the visuals enhance your key messages? Are there visual details we need to include that may not be documented in the storyboard?

After you send us your list of revisions, our storyboard artists will revise your storyboard and share the 2nd draft with you to review and approve. If additional edits are needed, we’ll continue to work with you polish and perfect your storyboard.

4). VoiceOver

After the storyboard is approved, our commercial video production company will hand pick a selection of voiceover auditions for you to review. You will receive a copy of the voiceover to listen to. If there are any parts you want the voiceover artist to rerecord, just let us know!

5). Soundtrack

If you need your video resized or edited down to create shorter variations for social media, we can help with that too.

We also recommend creating alternate intros and or endings for your commercial so you can test which variation of your commercial video delivers more conversions (ask us about this when you get a custom quote for your commercial).

3d effects video get a quote

Once we agree to the scope of the project, you will receive a production agreement to sign and an invoice for the first 50% of your production budget.

2). Script

Now that production is underway, we’ll develop the script for your 3D effects video (or we can skip this step if you provide the script).

3d effects video script

Download Video Igniter’s Free Script Writing Template

If our team needs additional background information to develop your script, we’ll send you questions via email or schedule a call to discuss your key talking points.

For most projects, it takes 1-4 business days to develop the first draft of the script. When the first draft is ready, we will share a digital copy of the script for you to review. You and your team can add your comments directly on the script doc and then send it back to us for revisions. We’ll integrate your edits and then share the 2nd draft of the script with you to review and approve.

If additional edits are needed, we will continue to work with you to revise and polish your script until it’s perfect.

3). Storyboard

3d effects video storyboard

Download Video Igniter’s Free Storyboard Template

Next, we turn your script into a storyboard for your 3D effects video. The storyboard functions like a blueprint for your video. It tells the illustrators and animators exactly what to create for each scene. This is especially important for videos that include 3D effects. Proper planning and documentation ensures a smooth and accurate production process.

You will receive a copy of the storyboard to review with your time. Give it a detailed review to ensure we have accurately described the 3D effects you want us to create for your video. If there are extra details that need to be shown in the final video, let us know so we can add it to the storyboard.

4). Concept Art

After the storyboard is approved, the art director will oversee the creation of concept art for your 3D effects video. Concept art gives the visual effects team an opportunity to develop and refine overall visual style for your 3D effects video before we spend a lot of time creating all of the scenes for your video. This ensures we end up creating assets that match what you envision.

3d effects video concept art

Video Igniter’s art director will review your brand guidelines and any style references you may have shared. Then, the art director will develop multiple pieces of concept art for your 3D effects video based on scenes from your storyboard.

Even though we’re creating 3D effects for your video, concept art usually starts with 2D illustrations because it’s quicker and easier to develop and polish the visual style using 2D images before creating a 3D version of the concept art.

When the concept art is ready, give it a thoughtful review with your team. Share your honest feedback with the art director about what you like and dislike about each concept. This way, the art director can revise and refine your favorite visual concept until it’s perfect.

3d effects video illustrator

Depending on the nature of the 3D effects that are being created for your video, the art director may take the time to create a 3D version of the concept art, or they may dive in directly to creating the 3D models and effects for your video.

5). Models & Color

Now that the concept art is approved, Video Igniter’s production team can begin work creating all of the 3D characters, scenes, objects and special effects for your video.

At first, you will receive a series of black and white 3D models like this:

3d effects video model

The initial goal is to work with our 3D modelers to let them know what you like and dislike about the shape and form of each model. Our modelers will work with you to revise and polish the models until everything looks perfect.

Then, we’ll add color, texture and shading to all of the 3D models to develop their final appearance. You will get an opportunity to review all of the colorized models and request edits before we animate your 3D effects video.

6). VoiceOver

voiceover

While we’re creating the 3D models for your video, you will receive a selection of voiceover auditions to listen to. Let us know which one is your favorite and we’ll hire that person to record the full voiceover narration for your video.

You will get to listen to a copy of the recording and have an opportunity to request edits (if needed) before we use the voiceover in your 3D effects video.

7). Soundtrack

soundtrack

You will also receive a selection of soundtrack options for your 3D effects video. Give them a listen and let us know which option is your favorite. We’ll acquire the appropriate licenses so we can legally use the music in your video.

8). Animation

Once everything is approved, it’s time to animate your 3D effects video.

Our 3D animators will assemble all of your 3D models into the different scenes for your video. Then, they will animate the 3D models and add special effects that are synced up with the voiceover narration and music.

3d effects video animator

3D animation takes time to do well so this stage will require some patience. Usually it takes more than 1 week to animate 1 minute of 3D video. If your project is longer than a few minutes, we’ll add additional animators to the project to speed up production.

When the first draft is complete, you will receive a link to download your 3D effects video. Give it a detailed review with your team (and ideally members of your target audience). Collect everyone’s feedback and send it to us. We’ll integrate your revisions and render out the new version of your video for you to review and sign off.

9). Post Production

3d effects video post production

Now that the animation is approved, we can help you with any final post production work. This may include:

  • Adding subtle sound effects to your video.
  • Balancing and mastering the audio levels (voiceover + soundtrack + sound effects).
  • Editing your 3D effects video into a larger video made of 2D animation or live action video clips.
  • Translating your video to other languages.
  • Exporting the video in different aspect ratios for different social media platforms.

After all of the post production work is complete, you will receive the final invoice for your 3D effects video. Once the invoice is paid, you will receive the unwatermarked copy of your 3D effects video.

How much does it cost to make a 3D effects video?

3d effects video cost

Many types of 3D animation effects can be produced within the range of $5,000-$35,000 for a 60-second video. That being said, there are many factors at play that will affect the budget of your 3D effects video. If you want to produce cinema quality 3D effects like Transformers, The Matrix and Avatar, a larger budget will be required.

How long does it take to make a 3D effects video?

3d effects production timeline

3D animation takes 2x-3x more time to create compared to 2D animation. If you want to create a 60-second video with 3D effects, we recommend you allocate at least 8-10 weeks for the creation of your video.

Need to speed up the production process? Send us a message and ask about rush delivery options.

Tips for making a successful 3D effects video

3D animation projects can get complex. Here are a few quick tips to ensure you have a smooth production process.

3d effects video tips

1). Think It Through

Before you hire an animator to create your 3D effects video, we recommend you plan out your video as much as possible. This helps with two things: 1). It will help you pick an animator or studio who is qualified to create the type of 3D effects you envision and 2). It will prevent slowdowns during the production process if you’ve already thought through what you want us to show in your video.

Of course, creative ideas and new inspiration pop up during the production process so you don’t need to have things 100% figured out before you get started – but it certainly helps the production process if you have a well conceived concept in mind before hiring an animator.

2). Start Early

3D animation takes time to do a good job. We recommend starting production as soon as possible so that no phases of the production process are rushed.

production calendar

3). Share Style Examples

Look for examples of other 3D effects videos that are similar to the style and quality you want for your video. Providing visual references makes it faster and easier for the art director to understand and create the visual style you want for your video.

How to save money when you make a 3D effects video

Combine these tips to save 10%-25% or more off the cost of creating your 3D effects video.

3d effects video budget saving tips

1). Use Free, Legal Music

Do you have a song you want us to use in your 3D effects video? Send it our way and we’ll deduct music licensing costs from your production budget. Just be sure that you have the commercial and or broadcast rights for the music so we can legally use it in your video.

2). Write The Script

You can save $500 off the price of each minute of video content we make for you if you write the script for your 3D effects video. Download our free script template for help getting started.

3). Record The VoiceOver

Is there someone on your team with an iconic voice? Do you want to use their video to narrate your 3D effects video? If so, we’ll deduct voiceover recording and licensing costs from your production budget.

4). Create The Storyboard

You can save an additional $500 off the price of each minute of video content we produce for you if you create the storyboard for your 3D effects video. Don’t worry if you’ve never made a storyboard before. Download our storyboard template and review the included storyboard creation guide to see how easy it is to make a storyboard. No artistic ability need. It’s our job to bring your vision to life and make it look great!

How to make a whiteboard video with Video Igniter

Video Igniter will guide you through 6 production steps to get your idea turned into a custom animated whiteboard video.

1). Contact Us For A Quote

The first thing you need to do to make a whiteboard video is to get in touch with Video Igniter’s production team so we can learn about your project and help you develop a production budget. You can send us a message or schedule a call to speak with us.

After we establish the scope of your project, you will receive a production agreement to sign and an invoice for the first 50% of your production budget.

2). Script

whiteboard video script

Download Video Igniter’s Free Script Writing Template

Now that production is underway, the first thing we will create for your video is the script. The script functions like the skeleton for your whole video. It helps us establish a logical flow between all of the key talking points in your whiteboard video.

You will receive a copy of the script to review with your team. Send us your feedback and we’ll work with you to revise and polish your script until you love it.

3). Storyboard

whiteboard video storyboard

Download Video Igniter’s Free Storyboard Template

Next, we turn your script into a storyboard. The storyboard is the blueprint for your whiteboard video. It tells the illustrators and animators exactly what to create for each part of your script.

Each page of your storyboard includes:

  • A sentence from your script.
  • A rough sketch to explain what will be shown visually during each scene.
  • A list of instructions that explain how each scene’s motion design will line up with the voiceover.

You will receive a copy of the storyboard to review with your team. While you review your storyboard, focus on the proposed visuals for each scene. Do they enhance the viewer’s understanding of your key messages? If not, let us know what we should change. Are there specific visual details you want us to include? If so, let us know so we can document them in the storyboard for the illustrators and animators.

4). VoiceOver

voiceover

The voiceover is a key component of your whiteboard video. Without it, we can’t begin animation on your video because everything is animated in sync with your video’s voiceover.

You will receive a handful of voiceover options to listen to. Let us know which one is your favorite and we’ll hire that person to record the full narration for your whiteboard video.

When the audio file becomes available, we’ll share it with you so you can listen to it and request edits before we use it to create your whiteboard video.

5). Soundtrack

soundtrack

You will receive a selection of soundtrack options for your whiteboard video. Give them a listen and let us know which option is your favorite. We’ll take care of acquiring the appropriate license(s) so we can legally use the music in your whiteboard video.

6). Illustration & Animation

whiteboard video illustration and animation

There are two ways to illustrate and animate a whiteboard video.

Initially, whiteboard videos were produced by positioning a camera across from a whiteboard so that the camera can film an illustrator while they draw sketches on a whiteboard. Then, the footage is synced to the voiceover so the illustrations appear during the right part of your voiceover narration.

People still produce this style of whiteboard animation but it isn’t as common as it used to be – mostly because if you want to make changes, it’s trickier to make revisions. It’s also much easier and more cost effective to produce it using 2D computer animation.

These days, most whiteboard videos aren’t actually produced on whiteboards. Instead, animators and illustrators simulate what it would look like if a hand was drawing visuals rather than actually filming someone drawing on a whiteboard.

To achieve this, illustrators will create a series of images that appear like hand drawn images. You will get a chance to review these images and request edits before we animate your video.

Once the art is approved, the animators will animate a photo of a hand holding a pen so that it looks like it’s moving around and drawing images on screen. The hand drawn illustrations will then appear on screen under the fake simulation of a hand drawing on the whiteboard. This process is repeated until all of the footage is produced using animation software. Then, all of the clips will be assembled and synced with the voiceover.

When the first draft of your whiteboard animation is ready to review, you will receive a link to download a copy. Review it with your team and members of your target audience. Collect everyone’s feedback, organize it and send it to us so we can integrate your revision requests. We’ll render out the next draft of your whiteboard animation for you and your team to review and approve.

After the animation gets your sign off, our audio team will take an extra day to add subtle sound effects to enhance key moments in your whiteboard video.

Video Igniter’s freelance animators will guide you through the full production experience to ensure you end up with a custom animated video that looks and communicates exactly what you imagined.

1). Get A Quote

freelance animator get a quote

First thing’s first. We should connect to discuss your project’s goals. If you’d like, we can meet via phone call, video call or you can send us a message about your project and we’ll follow up with a few questions to learn more about your video.

We’ll work with you to develop a production plan and budget to create your dream video. Once we agree to the scope of the project, you will receive a production agreement to sign and an invoice for the first 50% of your production budget.

2). Script

freelance animator script

When production begins, we will hand pick a freelance animator that’s uniquely suited to create your specific project. The first thing they will make for you is the script for your video. Depending on the nature of your animation, they may request a phone call to learn more about what you want to show and communicate in your video.

After the freelancer gets the information they need, it takes 1-3 business days to write the first draft of your script. When the first draft is ready, the freelance animator will send you a digital copy of your script to review. Share it with members of your team to collect everyone’s feedback. Once the notes are organized, send your revision requests to the freelance animator so they can update your script.

You will receive the 2nd draft of the script to review and sign off with your team. If additional edits are needed, the freelance animator will continue to work with you to revise your script.

3). Storyboard

Next, the freelance animator will turn the script into the storyboard. The storyboard acts like the blueprint for your animation. It’s a way for you and the freelance animator to get a consensus about what will be created for every scene in your animation.

Each page of the storyboard includes a sentence from your script, a rough sketch of the scene and a list of instructions that explain how things will move in the scene.

You will get an opportunity to pour over the storyboard with your team to make sure the visual storytelling part of your animation aligns with the key messages in your script. If there are any scenes you want us to update with important details, let the freelance animator know! They’ll integrate your revisions and share an updated copy of the storyboard with you to review and sign off.

4). VoiceOver

The freelance animator will send you a handful of voiceover auditions to listen to. Let them know which audition is your favorite, and they’ll hire the voiceover talent to record the narration for your animation. You will get an opportunity to listen to the full recording and request edits (if needed).

The freelance animator will also send you a selection of soundtracks for your video. Give them a listen and let the freelancer know which option is your favorite so they can acquire the rights to use the music in your animation.

6). Illustrations

After the storyboard is approved, your freelance animator will start working on concept art for your video. They’ll review your brand guidelines and style references and then develop multiple pieces of concept art based on scenes from your storyboard.

freelance animator concept art

Share your honest feedback with the freelance animator when you review the concepts. Let them know what you like and dislike about each concept. This way, the freelancer can polish and perfect your favorite visual concept.

Once the visual concept is approved, the freelance animator will create all of the custom illustrations for your video. Give them a thorough review with your team and compile a list of revision notes. Share the revisions with the freelance animator so they can update all of your art. You’ll get another chance to look over the updated art before your video moves into the animation stage of production.

7). Animation

freelance animator

Now that everything is approved, the freelance animator can animate your video! It takes about 1 week to animate 1 minute’s worth of video.

When the first draft is ready, you will receive a link to download a copy of your video. Share it with your team and members of your target audience. Collect everyone’s feedback and share it with the freelance animator. The animator will integrate your revisions and share the 2nd draft with you to review and sign off.

For one final touch, the freelance animator will add subtle sound effects to your video. They’ll also adjust and master the audio levels between the sound effects, the voiceover and the background music so everything sounds loud and clear.

What does it cost to hire a freelance animator?

freelance animator cost

In general, you can expect to spend between $1,500-$7,500 to create a 60-second 2D animation.

If you want to hire a freelance animator to create a 3D animation or a high end 2D animation, you may need a budget that’s 2x-4x bigger.

Here are 4 ways you can get a quote for your animation:

1). Send Video Igniter a message about the video you want to create.

2). Schedule a call with a member of our team.

3). Fill out this questionnaire.

4). Request access to Video Igniter’s price page.

What should I look for before hiring a freelance animator?

hire a freelance animator

Before you hire Video Igniter or a freelance animator for your project, we recommend you evaluate your options based on the following criteria:

1). Portfolio

The first thing you should do when evaluating a freelance animator is to check out their animation portfolio. It’s ok if they haven’t produced an animation that’s exactly like the style you want. In fact, you probably don’t want to see an exact copy of the animation you want to make because it means yours won’t be that original. Instead, focus on the overall level of quality of the visual design and motion design. If it looks up to par using a different animation/illustration style, you should be good to go.

2). Pricing

Ask the freelance animator what their pricing structure is like. Do they charge by the hour? Is it a flat rate for the whole project? Make sure you get a quote to evaluate if the freelance animator can work within your budget. Also, the cheapest option isn’t always the best. When it comes to quality, you get what you pay for.

Request access to Video Igniter’s Pricing Page.

3). Production Timeline

freelance animator production timeline

How long will it take to make your animation? Can the the freelance animator complete your project before your deadline? Some animators also offer rush delivery if you’re willing to pay extra to expedite production to meet your deadline.

4). Storytelling Ability

Making an animation isn’t just about creating pretty visuals. There needs to be quality storytelling and messaging behind the visuals. Otherwise, what’s the point!? When you review an animator’s portfolio, pay extra attention to gauge how well the video communicates its message to its intended target audience.

5). Reviews & Testimonials

Check with the freelance animator to see what reviews and testimonials they have to share. Don’t hesitate to ask for references you can call!

reviews and testimonials

6). Revisions

How many revisions are included in the price? If you pay the freelance animator by the hour, this question doesn’t matter as much. If you’re paying a flat rate, you’ll want to understand whether 1, 2 or 3 rounds of revisions are included in the price. Video Igniter offers unlimited revisions for certain projects.

How quickly can a freelance animator make my video?

freelance animator production schedule

A freelance animator will need about 3-6 weeks to create a 60-second animated video. High end 2D animation or 3D animation will take at least 2x more time to complete the project.

Need to speed up production to meet a deadline? Send us a message and ask us about rush delivery.

Here are 4 ways we can help:

2). Fill out this questionnaire.

3). Send us a message.

4). Request access to video Igniter’s price sheet.

2). Script

b2b explainer video script

Download Video Igniter’s Free Script Writing Template

Now that production is underway, we’ll send you a list of questions to learn more information that will help us write the script for your B2B explainer video. Popular questions include:

  • Who is your target audience?
  • What problems do they experience?
  • How does your business solve their problem(s)?
  • What do you want your audience to do when they’re done watching your explainer video?

With this information in mind, our team will develop a script that highlights the problems your customers experience and introduce your company as a way to solve those problems.

You will receive a draft of the script to review with your team. Add your feedback directly on the script doc and send it back to us. We’ll integrate your revisions and share the 2nd draft of the script with you to review and approve. If additional edits are needed, we’ll continue to work with you to revise your script until it’s perfect.

3). Storyboard

b2b explainer video storyboard

Download Video Igniter’s Free Storyboard Template

Next, we turn your script into a storyboard. The storyboard is the blueprint for your B2B explainer video. Each page contains a sentence from your script, a rough sketch of the scene and a list of instructions that explain how everything moves within the scene.

We’ll send you a digital copy of the storyboard to review with your team. While you review the storyboard, we recommend you focus on the visual storytelling aspects of each scene. Do the visuals enhance what the voiceover is talking about? Did we include enough visual detail? If we need to show specific visual details (i.e. for product design) let us know so we can include high resolution images in the storyboard. That way, the illustrators will know exactly what to create for each scene in your B2B explainer video.

After you send us your feedback, we’ll revise your storyboard and share the 2nd draft with you review and approve.

4). VoiceOver

voiceover

Now that the storyboard is approved, it’s time to record the voiceover for your B2B explainer video. You will receive a selection of voiceover samples to listen to. Let us know which audition you like best and we’ll hire that person to record the full narration for your video. You will get an opportunity to listen to the full voiceover and request edits (if needed).

5). Soundtrack

soundtrack

You will also receive a selection of soundtrack options for your video. Give them a listen and let us know which one is your favorite. We’ll acquire the appropriate license(s) so we can legally use the music in your B2B explainer video.

6). Illustrations

Once your storyboard gets sign off from your team, our art director will begin creating custom concept art for your B2B explainer video. The art director will review your brand guidelines and any style references you may have shared. Then, they’ll create multiple pieces of concept art based on scenes from your storyboard.

concept art

When you review the concept art, share your honest feedback with the art director. In addition to telling them what you like about each concept, be sure to let them know what visual details you don’t like. This way, the art director can work with you to revise and refine your favorite piece of concept art until it’s perfect.

With the approved concept art in hand, the art director will oversee a team of illustrators to create all of the illustrations for your B2B explainer video. You will get an opportunity to review all of the art and to request edits before we animate your video.

7). Animation

b2b explainer video animation

Now that everything is approved, it’s time to animate your B2B explainer video!

It takes about 1 week to animate 1 minute’s worth of animation. If you need to speed up the production process, ask us about rush delivery.

When the first draft is ready, you will receive a link to download a copy of your B2B explainer video. Share the video with your team and members of your target audience to collect a wide range of feedback. After you summarize and organize all of the feedback, send it our way and we’ll integrate your revisions and render out the 2nd draft of your video.

Once the video is approved, we’ll take an extra day to add subtle sound effects and balance the audio levels between the background music and the voiceover. Then, we’ll render out the final draft of your B2B explainer video for you to start using at your company.

Some animated diagrams have no sound or voiceover. If your animated diagram includes a voiceover narration, we will work with you to develop the script for the narrator. If there is no voiceover in your animated diagram, we’ll write down a list of instructions to explain what will happen in your animated diagram.

You will receive a copy of the script/writeup to review. Add your comments to the digital document and send it back to us. We’ll integrate your revisions and continue to work with you to revise your script until it’s perfect.

3). Storyboard

Next, we’ll turn your script into a storyboard. This is how we visually map out what we’re going to show and how things will change throughout your animated diagram. Each page of the storyboard will include a rough sketch of the scene, a list of motion design instructions for the animators and a sentence from your script (if there’s a voiceover that goes with your diagram).

You will receive a digital copy of the storyboard to review with your team. Add your notes directly on each frame of the storyboard if there’s something you want us to edit. For animated diagrams, it’s important to make sure we have the order of operations documented accurately before we create your animation.

4). VoiceOver

voiceover

If your animated diagram includes a voiceover narration, we’ll send you several voiceover auditions to listen to. Give them a listen and let us know which one is your favorite. We’ll hire that narrator to record the full voiceover for your animated diagram.

When the recording is ready, you will get an opportunity to listen to the full recording and request edits (if needed).

5). Soundtrack

soundtrack

Some animated diagrams include music and some are silent. If your animation includes music, we’ll send you a handful of soundtrack options to listen to. Let us know which one is your favorite and we’ll acquire the appropriate license(s) so we can legally use the music in your diagram.

6). Illustrations

When we create art for an animated diagram, the first step is to create concept art. We want to make sure we design and establish a visual style that works with your brand before we spend time creating all of the custom images for your animated diagram.

Video Igniter’s art director will review your brand guidelines and any style references you shared. Then, they’ll create multiple pieces of concept art based on scenes from your storyboard.

When you review the concept art for your diagram, be sure to share your honest feedback with the art director. Let them know what you like and dislike about each concept. This way, they can work with you to revise and refine your favorite visual concept until it’s perfect.

Once the concept art is locked in, we’ll create the rest of the images that are needed for your animated diagram. You will get a chance to review all of the illustrations and request edits before we animate your diagram.

7). Animation

Looking at the big picture, most animation styles fall into 1 of 2 categories: 2D animation or 3D animation. In this article, we’re going to break things down even further so you can make an informed decision about which sub genre of 2D or 3D animation you should choose for your video project.

style of animation 2d 3d

2D Animation Style Types

2D Cartoon Animation

2D cartoon animation is a broad category of animation that emulates a colorful, cartoonish style. This visual style used to be reserved for children’s shows but now it’s also used for adult animation and mainstream marketing campaigns.

  • Pros: Cartoon style animations can be less expensive and quicker  to produce – as long as it isn’t made using hand drawn illustrations (more on that later).
  • Cons: Generally isn’t applicable for B2B marketing campaigns because B2B marketing campaigns benefit from a clean, modern, non-cartoon animation style.

2D Vector Animation

2D vector animation is a modern, clean style of animation that tends to use colorful vector-based shapes, patterns and icons to convey a message. Vector animations can include animated characters. Animated infographic videos are typically made using 2D vector animation techniques.

  • Pros: Clean and crisp modern style. Great for B2B sales and marketing videos.
  • Cons: Typically lacks texture and rich visual detail because visuals are created using solid color vector shapes and icons.

2D Whiteboard Animation

Whiteboard animation is a style of animation created by filming someone drawing images on a whiteboard in sync with a voiceover that is explaining new information. Sometimes whiteboard animations are created on a computer by using an image of a hand holding a pen and simulating it moving around the screen to make it look like it’s drawing.

  • Pros: Generally the least expensive form of 2D animation. Great for explaining concepts and new ideas.
  • Cons: Whiteboard animations may not have the professional aesthetic needed for certain industries.

2D Motion Graphics

Motion graphics add motion design to static images. Often times motion graphics don’t include animated characters but they can be included. Great for explaining new information and showing how processes and user interfaces work.

  • Pros: Great way to add life and interest to static image-based content you may have already created. It’s popular to mix motion graphics content with live action video content.
  • Cons: Generally not the style of animation you want to use if your animation is going to include lots of visual detail or textures.

2D Hand Drawn Animation (aka Cel Animation)

If you really want to wow your audience, hand drawn animation (also known as cel animation) is likely the route you want to go. Hand drawn animation enables the animators to create detailed, fluid illustrations and animations. This style of animation is considered the original form of animation (think old school cartoons) and it can also be used to create more modern looking animation styles.

  • Pros: Hand drawn 2D animation can be used to create almost any kind of visual you can imagine.
  • Cons: This is the most expensive form of 2D animation and it takes about 2x as much time to create compared to other forms of 2D animation.

3D Animation Style Types

Photorealistic 3D Animation

Looking to create a photorealistic representation of a real world object or environment? This is the right option for you. 3D modelers will create photo-realistic visuals to show what something looks like and how it moves. Great for visualizing new things that are in development.

  • Pros: Create photo realistic representations of product concepts and building designs.
  • Cons: Requires a larger budget. The bigger the budget, the more photorealistic we can make your video.

3D Cartoon Animation

What if creating a PIXAR style animation is more of the style of animation you’re after? Video Igniter’s 3D animation production team is ready to help you tell a visually fun and delightful story for your viewers.

  • Pros: It’s possible to visually create and show anything you want – including things that don’t exist and things that can’t be filmed with a video camera.
  • Cons: Likely the most expensive style of animation to produce.

2). Script

nonprofit video script

Download Video Igniter’s Free Script Writing Template

The first deliverable we create your nonprofit video is the script. Our team will meet with you virtually (or email you a list of questions) to help us understand:

  • Who your target audience is?
  • What is your mission?
  • What key messages do you want to communicate in your nonprofit video?
  • What do you want viewers to do when they’re done watching your video?

Armed with this information, Video Igniter’s script writers will develop the first draft of the script for your nonprofit’s video. You will receive a digital copy of the script to review with your team. Give it a thoughtful look over to ensure it conveys all your talking points to your target audience in a way that will resonate with them.

If there are any edits you’d like us to make, let us know! Our writers are happy to work with you to revise and polish your script until you love it.

3). Storyboard

nonprofit video storyboard

Download Video Igniter’s Free Storyboard Template

Once the script is approved, it’s time to create the storyboard for your nonprofit’s video. The storyboard functions like the blueprint for your video. It tells our illustrators and animators exactly what to create for every part of your script.

Each page of the storyboard includes a sentence from your script, a rough sketch of the scene and a list of instructions that explains how things will move throughout the scene.

You will receive a digital copy of the storyboard to review with your team. While you review the storyboard, focus on the visual storytelling elements. Do they help enhance the presentation of the message your script lays out? Do the visuals make sense? Are there specific details you want us to show visually? If so, let us know now so we can document it in the storyboard.

4). VoiceOver

voiceover

With the script and storyboard approved, it’s now time to create the voiceover narration for your nonprofit video.

You will receive a hand picked selection of voiceover auditions. Give them a listen and let us know which option is your favorite. We’ll hire that person to record the full narration for your nonprofit video. You will get an opportunity to listen to the full recording and request edits before we use the narration to create your video.

5). Soundtrack

soundtrack

You will also receive a selection of soundtrack options to listen to. Let us know which one is your favorite and we’ll acquire the appropriate licenses so we can legally use the music in your nonprofit video.

6). Illustrations

After your storyboard gets approved, Video Igniter’s art director will create concept art for your nonprofit video. The art director will review your brand guidelines and any style references you may have shared. Then, they will develop multiple pieces of concept art based off scenes from your storyboard.

nonprofit video concept art

When you review the concept art, share your honest feedback with the art director. Let them know what you like and dislike about each concept. That way, the art director can work with you to polish your favorite visual concept until it’s perfect.

With the approved concept art in hand, the art director will now oversee a team of illustrators while they create all of the art for your animation. You will get the opportunity to review all of the art and request edits before approving the art for production.

7). Animation

nonprofit video animation

Now that everything is approved, it’s time to animate your nonprofit video!

Animation takes about 1 week for each minute of content we’re producing for you. If your video is longer than a few minutes, we may add additional animators to the project to speed up this phase of production.

As soon as it’s ready, you will receive a link to share and download the first draft of your nonprofit video. Share it with members of your team and your target audience. Then, collect everyone’s feedback and send it our way.

We’ll integrate your revisions and render out the next draft of your video. After the video gets your approval, we’ll take an extra day to add sound effects and master the audio levels before rendering out the final draft of your nonprofit video.

What does it cost to make a nonprofit video?
