How does Video Igniter create custom animated videos?

Video Igniter will guide you through these 7 steps to get your ideas turned into custom animated videos:

1). Get A Quote

While you’re evaluating your custom animated video production options, we invite you to take a look at our animation portfolio and connect with us to get a quote for your project.

Here are 4 ways you can get a quote for your video:

1). Send us a message.

2). Schedule a call with our production team.

3). Fill out this questionnaire.

4). Request access to our price sheet.

Our team will work with you to learn about the custom animated videos you want to create and then we’ll develop a production budget and timeline to bring them to life.

Once we agree to the scope of the project, you will receive a production agreement to sign and an invoice for 50% of your production budget.

2). Script

The first deliverable we create for your custom animated videos are the video scripts. The scripts enable us to create a structure for your video. It’s how we organize your key messages so they can be presented to your audience in a way that is logical and engaging.

custom animated videos script

You will receive a copy of the scripts to review with your team. Add your notes directly on the script document and let us know when all the feedback is in. Our writers will review your feedback and revise your scripts accordingly.

You will receive the 2nd draft of your video scripts to review with your team. If additional edits are needed, our writers will continue to work with you to polish and perfect your scripts. When they’re ready to go, we’ll move on to the next stage of the production process.

3). Storyboard

Next, we’ll create the storyboards for your custom animated videos.

custom animated videos storyboard

A storyboard is like a visual blueprint for your animation. It tells our illustrators and animators exactly what to create. Each page includes:

1). A sentence from your script.

2). A sketch or mockup of the scene.

3). Instructions that explain how elements will move in the scene.

You will receive a digital copy of the storyboard to review with your team. We recommend focusing your feedback on the visual storytelling elements. Will the visuals enhance the viewers’ understanding of your key messages? Are there important visual details we need to include? If so, let us know so we can add them to the storyboard!

4). VoiceOver

voiceover

Our audio team will select a handful of voiceover auditions for your custom animated videos. Give them a listen and let us know which option(s) are your favorite. We’ll hire the selected voiceover artist(s) to record the narration for your videos. When the full recording is read, you will get an opportunity to listen to all of the audio and request edits (if needed).

5). Soundtrack

soundtrack

You will also receive a selection of soundtracks for your custom animated videos. Give them a listen and let us know which option(s) best fit the tone you want to use in your videos. We’ll take care of acquiring the appropriate usage rights so we can legally use the music in your animated videos.

6). Illustrations

Video Igniter’s art director will review your brand guidelines and any style references you may have shared. Then, the art director will create multiple pieces of concept art for your custom animated videos.

custom animated videos concept art

When you review the visual concepts, share your honest feedback. Let us know what you like and dislike about each visual concept. This way, we can refine and polish your favorite concept until it’s perfect.

Then, we’ll create all of the illustrations for your custom animated videos and give you an opportunity to review them with your team. We’ll address all of your edits and polish the illustrations before we animate your videos.

7). Animation

Now that everything is approved, it’s time to animate your videos!

It takes about 1 week to animate a 60-second video. If your videos are long, we may add additional animators to the project to speed up the production process.

custom animated videos animation

When the first draft of your custom animated videos are ready, you will receive a link so you can download copies to review with your team. Give them a thorough review. We also recommend reviewing the videos with members of your target audience to get their feedback.

Organize all the feedback from your team and send it our way. We will integrate your revisions and then render out the final drafts of your custom animated videos for you to review and approve.

Once the animations are approved, we’ll take an extra day to add subtle sound effects and master the audio levels between the voiceovers and soundtracks so that everything sounds loud and clear.

You will be able to download unwatermarked copies of your custom animated videos after you pay your final production invoice.

2). Write The Script

Now that production is officially under way, the first deliverable we create for your company’s animation is the video script.

animation for company script

Our writers will send you a list of questions to help us learn:

  • What key messages you want to include in your animation.
  • Who your target audience is.
  • What problems they experience?
  • How does your company solve those problems?
  • What do you want your viewers to do when they’re done watching your company’s animation?

With this information on hand, our copywriters will develop the first draft of the animation’s script so that we convey all of your talking points in a way that resonates with your target audience.

You will receive a digital copy of the script to review with your team. If there are any revisions you want us to make, send us your feedback and our copywriters will revise your script accordingly.

3). Create The Storyboard

Following the approval of your script, the next stage in the production process is to create a storyboard for your company’s animation.

animation for company storyboard

The storyboard is the visual blueprint for your animation. It’s where we describe all the visuals we intend to create for your video. Video Igniter’s illustrators will use it to create all of the custom illustrations for your video. Then, our animators will use the instructions in the storyboard to understand how they should animate each scene.

Each page of your storyboard includes:

  • A sentence from your script.
  • A mockup of the scene.
  • Instructions that explain how everything will move in the scene.

You will receive a digital copy of the storyboard to review with your team. When you review it, focus on the visual storytelling elements. Do the proposed visuals help your target audience understand the key messages in your script? Are we including enough visual detail? If there’s something specific we need to show (UI elements, physical attributes of your product, etc) let us know so we can include those details in the storyboard. This way, our illustrators and animators have a comprehensive guide that lets them know what details to include in each scene.

After we receive your feedback, we will update your storyboard and share the 2nd draft with you to review and approve.

4). Make The Illustrations

Now it’s time to create the illustrations for the animation for your company. We’ll start by creating a series of concept images before we create all of the art for your video. This way we’re aligned on the visual style before we spend time creating all the art.

animation for company concept art

Video Igniter’s art director will review your brand guidelines and any style references you may have shared. Then, we’ll select a few scenes from your storyboard and illustrate them using several different visual styles.

When you review the concept art, we ask that you share your honest feedback with us. Let us know what you like and dislike about each concept. This way, our art director can refine and polish your favorite concept until it’s perfect.

animation for company illustrator

After the concept art is approved, our illustration team will create all of the images for your company’s animation. You will get an opportunity to review all of the illustrations and request edits before we animate your video.

5). Record The VoiceOver

The producer assigned to your project will ask you what kind of voiceover you want to use in your company animation. Male or female? Accent? Age? Tone?

From there, the producer will handpick a few voiceover auditions for you to review. Give them a listen and let us know which option is your favorite. We’ll also take care of acquiring the appropriate license(s) so we can legally use the voiceover in the animation we make for your company.

Where can I hire a 2D animator

Your best options for finding a 2D animator are to look on Google, YouTube, Instagram and portfolio websites like Dribbble and Behance.

When you evaluate animators for your project, we recommend you look beyond their animation portfolio. Do their animations effectively convey their key messages? Does the animator have positive reviews? Are revisions included the price?

For more tips on finding and hiring the right animator for your project, we recommend checking out this companion article.

Deep Dive: How To Estimate Your Animation Cost

How do I work with a 2D animator to make my video?

When you’re ready to hire one of Video Igniter’s 2D animators, we will guide you through the following steps to help you turn your idea into a custom animated video.

1). Contact Us For A Quote

Get in touch with our team by scheduling a call or sending us a message so we can learn about your project and you can evaluate if we are a good fit to make your 2D animation.

hire a 2d animator quote

Our producers will take the time to learn what you want to accomplish with your video by asking a series of questions about your key messages and your target audience. Then, we’ll come up with a plan to determine which visual style is best for your animation budget.

From there, you will receive a production contract to sign and an invoice for 50% of the cost of hiring one of our 2D animators to create your video. Once that’s squared away, production begins!

2). Script

hire a 2d animator script

Now that production is underway, the 2D animator will spend time learning more about the key message(s) you want to include in your video. Then, they will oversee the creation of the script for your 2D video.

You will be given a copy of the script to review with your team. Add your comments directly to the document and the 2D animator will revise your script accordingly.

If the 2nd draft of your script needs further revisions, let us know and we’ll continue to work with you to polish your script until it’s perfect.

3). Storyboard

hire a 2d animator storyboard

Next, the 2D animator will turn your script into a storyboard. The storyboard functions like a blueprint for your animation. It’s a way to get consensus with the animator about what will be shown in each scene of your video.

Each page of the storyboard includes:

  • A sentence from your script.
  • A mockup of the scene.
  • And list of instructions that explains what will happen in each scene.

You will get a digital copy of the storyboard to review with your team. Add your notes directly to the storyboard and then the animator will revise your storyboard accordingly. You will get an opportunity to review the 2nd draft of the storyboard and request additional edits, if needed.

4). VoiceOver

voiceover

After the storyboard is approved, you will receive multiple voiceover auditions to listen to. Let us know which one is your favorite and we will hire that person to record the full voiceover for your 2D animation. When the recording is ready, you will get an opportunity to listen to the audio and request edits (if needed).

5). Soundtrack

soundtrack

You will also receive a selection of soundtrack options for your 2D animation. Give them a listen and let us know which one is your favorite. We will take care of acquiring the appropriate broadcast and commercial licenses so we can legally use the music in your video.

6). Illustrations

Now it’s time to create the illustrations for your 2D animation. The 2D animator you hired will begin by creating multiple pieces of concept art for your video. To get started, they will review your style references and brand guidelines you shared at the beginning of the production process. Then they will select a few scenes from your storyboard and create concept art for those scenes.

hire a 2d animator concept art

Share your honest feedback about the concept art. Let the animator know what you like and dislike about each concept. This way the animator can polish your favorite piece of concept art until it’s perfect.

After the concept art has approved, the 2D animator will create the rest of the illustrations for your videos so they match the concept art. You will get an opportunity to review all of the illustrations and requested edits before we animate your video.

7). Animation

hire a 2d animator animation

After everything is approved, it’s time to animate your video. The 3D animator will line up all the illustrations they created with the timing of the voiceover. Then they will animate each scene and render out the first draft of your video.

Give the animation through a review. We recommend sharing it with members of your target audience to collect a wide range of feedback. After you organize everyone’s feedback, send it our way so the 2D animator can integrate your revisions. Once you receive the second draft of your animation give another review and let us know if there any final edits you want us to make.

Once the animation is approved, we will take another day to add subtle sound effects and master the audio levels for your video so it’s ready for showtime.

What should I look for when I hire a 2D animator?

hire a 2d animator checklist

Before you hire a 2D animator, we recommend evaluating them based on the following criteria:

1). Animation Portfolio

Review the 2D animator’s portfolio to see if they can produce animations similar to the style and quality you envision for your video. It’s ok if they don’t have an exact match. Evaluate their use of color, overall design and movement quality.

2). Storytelling Ability

Lots of animators can make beautiful 2D animations. Not all 2D animators are expert storytellers. Before you hire a 2D animator, make sure you evaluate the ability of their videos to tell good stories. Do their videos feel like they will resonate with the video’s target audience?

3). Reviews & Testimonials

reviews testimonials

Check to see if the animator has any reviews or testimonials. Don’t hesitate to ask for references you can call before hiring the 2D animator.

4). Pricing & Edits

Of course, you’ll want to get a quote for your project before you commit to hiring the 2D animator. When you get a quote, be sure to ask how many revisions are included in the price. Some animators only include 1-2 rounds. Video Igniter offers unlimited revisions for certain projects.

How long does it take a 2D animator to make custom video?

hire a 2d animator production timeline

If you’re starting from scratch and don’t have a script for your 2D animation, the production process can take 4-6 weeks to create a 60 second animation. High end hand drawn animations will take a few extra weeks to complete.

Need to speed up the production process? Send us a message and ask us about rush delivery for your video.

How To Promote My Video

How To Promote My Video

If you’re making an animated video to help you generate more awareness, leads, and sales, you probably also want to know how to promote my video?

Well, you’re in the right place! Video Igniter’s comprehensive guide to video promotion will answer all your top questions, including:

  • How to promote my video?
  • How to improve the conversion rate of my video?
  • Where can I promote my video?
  • What does it cost to promote my video?

Ready to learn? Let’s dive in!

How to promote my video?

Step 1: Choose Your Platforms

Before you begin promoting your video, you need to answer two questions:

  1. Who is my target audience?
  2. Where are they online?

how to promote my video choose platforms

Answering these questions will help you figure out which platforms to focus on.

If you want to reach a younger audience, focus on TikTok and Instagram.

Want to reach business professionals? Focus on Linkedin.

Aiming to reach hobbyists? Focus on community websites, Reddit, blogs and YouTube.

Step 2: Identify Your Goals

What do you want people to do when they’re done watching your video?

how to promote my video goals

If your goal is to increase awareness, focus on sites that deliver virality like YouTube, Reddit, Instagram, Facebook & TikTok.

If you want people to click on your ad to visit your website or a landing page, use paid promotion services on Hulu, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Reddit, & TikTok. These paid promotional services enable you to add link on your video or at the end of the video which viewers can click on to visit your desired web page.

Aiming to generate leads? Direct people to watch the video on your website and use a video hosting service like Wistia that enables you to include an email contact form within your video (either at the beginning, middle or end of your video). This way, you can use the content of your video to entice viewers to share their contact information with your company. This way, your sales team generates new inbound leads from the video on your homepage.

Step 3: How Will You Measure Success?

How will you know if you achieve success when you promote your video if you haven’t established a baseline for what success looks like?

how to promote my video success

Want to increase awareness? How many views do you need to get on your video(s) to achieve your goal? And what about the quality of your views? 100,000 views on Instagram isn’t worth as much as 10,000 views on Linkedin if your goal is to get business-focused people to view your video.

If you want to drive traffic to your website, do you have proper tracking in place to know how much of your web traffic comes from people who saw your video?

Maybe you want to direct people to call a phone number when they’re done watching your video. Do you have a system to count the # of calls to your special 1(800) number?

how to promote my video sharing

Whatever your goal is, make sure you have a plan to track and measure your progress so you can tell if your campaign is working and worth continuing or if it needs to be modified to achieve your goals.

Step 4: Syndicate Your Content & Launch Your Campaign

After you have your tracking mechanisms set up, it’s time to start syndicating your content to the different platforms.

how to promote my video launch campaign

If you’re doing an unpaid campaign, upload your videos to the sites that will reach your audience. Add keyword rich descriptions and hashtags to increase the odds of your content being seen by the right people.

Planning on running a paid media campaign? Upload your content to each site’s ad center and input your demographic targeting so the platform what kinds of people you want to reach with your video. We recommend starting with a low daily budget so you can test the effectiveness of your video before putting a large promotional budget behind it.

Step 5: Measure & Evaluate

After your campaign has been running for a few days or weeks, it’s time to evaluate the effectiveness of your campaign.

how to promote my video measure success

If you’re getting a sufficient number of views, clicks and leads from your paid media campaign, it’s a good sign to boost your daily campaign budget. However, if you aren’t satisfied with your results, you can do one of two things:

1). Stop paying to promote that specific video asset.

2). Change your targeting.

Step 6: Repeat

We recommend you continuously measure and evaluate the success of your video promotion campaign. Don’t assume that just because you got good results for a few days that the campaign is guaranteed to be a success. Maybe you got lucky with your video placements one day and then they dropped off. Or maybe you reached your everyone in your niche target audience on one platform and aren’t getting any more responses.

repeat

Checking your results on a daily and weekly basis can help you improve the ROI of your advertising spend and minimize your risk of blowing your advertising budget on media placements and targeting that don’t deliver results. Don’t be afraid to continuously fine tune the targeting for your video(s). Experiment with different demographics, locations and interests. Often, you’ll find different groups to target which will be notably more likely to engage with your content. When you do, double down on your promotion budget and continue to monitor the results to ensure they keep coming in.

How can I improve the conversion rate of my video?

Besides changing the targeting for a video, there are a few other things you can do to improve the conversion rate for your video. These strategies can work for both paid and non-paid video promotion campaigns.

how to promote my video conversion rate

The idea is to create multiple variations of your video to test which variation delivers the most conversion. We recommend creating videos with alternate intros (hooks) and alternate endings (calls to action) to see which one gets people to watch longer and engage with your CTA.

After you’ve identified which variation(s) are more likely to get people to convert, shift your advertising budget behind those that deliver results and pause the campaign for videos that don’t deliver results.

Want to learn how to do this with non-paid video campaigns? Check out our guide about how to improve the conversion rate of your video to see how you can test different variations of videos on your website to determine which variation delivers the most conversions.

What does it cost to promote my video?

These are the top 3 ways people pay to promote a video:

how to promote my video cost

Cost Per Thousand (CPM)

CPM or “Cost Per Thousand” is the most common way to pay to promote a video. Advertisers typically pay a rate between $4-$10 to display their video 1,000 times to the target audience they specified. Certain audiences may be more rare and harder to reach. In that case, the CPM to reach that audience can be $10-$30 or more.

Cost Per View

The draw back with CPM advertising is your ad may get displayed for 1-5 seconds before people click to skip your ad. If you want to pay to guarantee people see your full advertisement, Cost Per View (or CPV) advertising is the route you want to go. On YouTube, you can expect to pay between $0.10-$0.30 to guarantee someone watches the first 30 seconds of your ad. This also applies if someone actually clicks on your ad. If someone watches 29 seconds of your ad, you won’t get charged. If someone watches 29 seconds of your ad and clicks on your ad, you will get charged.

how to promote my video cost per view

Flat Rate Paid Placement

Sometimes it makes sense to pay to display your advertisement on a very specific website (or real world location) tailored to your audience. These types of campaigns typically only last a few days or weeks because exclusive placement of your video in a high visibility part of the website (or retail location) comes at a premium. The good news here is these ads are generally perceived as less intrusive and if you place them in the right location, your audience should be somewhat more interested in viewing or clicking on your video to see what it’s all about.

After we receive payment for the first 50% of your video’s budget, our commercial video production company will begin work on your video’s script. To create the script, Video Igniter’s copywriters will ask you the following types of questions:

  • What problem does your product/service solve for your target audience?

With this information on hand, our writers will develop the first draft of the script for your commercial. When the first draft is ready, you will receive a digital copy of the script to review with your team. Add your comments and feedback directly on the script.

Let us know when all the feedback is in and we will revise and polish your script until you love it.

3). Storyboard

Next, our commercial video production company will turn your script into a storyboard. The storyboard functions like a blueprint for your animated commercial. Each page contains the following instructions for our illustrators and animators:

  3. A list of assets needed to create the scene.
  4. A descriptive list of actions that explain how things will move during the scene.

You will receive a digital copy of the storyboard to review with your team. While you review the storyboard, focus on the visual storytelling elements. Do the visuals enhance your key messages? Are there visual details we need to include that may not be documented in the storyboard?

After you send us your list of revisions, our storyboard artists will revise your storyboard and share the 2nd draft with you to review and approve. If additional edits are needed, we’ll continue to work with you polish and perfect your storyboard.

How does Video Igniter make motion graphics for my video?

Video Igniter will guide you through these 7 steps to create custom motion graphics for your video project.

1). Contact Us For A Quote

motion graphics for video quote

To get things started, send us a message or schedule a call with our production team so we can learn about the motion graphics you want to create for your video. We’ll work with you to develop a plan and a budget to create your motion graphics. Our producers will want to learn the following types of information:

  • What do you want to show in your motion graphics?
  • What style of animation should we use? (It’s ok if you don’t know the answer to this.)
  • How will the motion graphics be used?
  • Who is your target audience?
  • What are your key messages?

Once we agree to the scope of your project, we’ll send you a production agreement to sign and an invoice for 50% of your production budget.

2). Script

motion graphics for video script

Now that production is underway, we’ll develop the script for your video’s motion graphics.

You will receive a draft of the script to review with your team. During this phase of production, focus on the key messages. Did we concisely include all of your key messages in a way that will resonate with your target audience? If we need to change the way we communicate your key messages, let us know so we can revise your script accordingly.

3). Storyboard

motion graphics for video storyboard

After the script is locked in, we’ll turn it into a storyboard. The storyboard functions like the blueprint for your motion graphics. It tells our illustrators and animators exactly what to create for every part of your script.

Each page of your storyboard includes:

  • A sentence from your script.
  • A sketch or mockup of the scene.
  • A list of assets needed to create the scene.
  • A list of instructions that explain how elements will move in each scene.

When you review the storyboard, focus on the visual storytelling details. Do they enhance the viewer’s understanding of your script? Did we include all of the necessary visual details? If not, let us know so we can document those details in your storyboard.

4). VoiceOver

voiceover

You will receive a selection of voiceover auditions to listen to for your motion graphics video. Give them a listen and let us know which one sounds best. We’ll hire that voiceover artist to record the narration for your video. When the recording is ready, you will get an opportunity to give it a listen and request edits (if needed) before we animate the motion graphics for your video.

5). Soundtrack

soundtrack

You will also receive a selection of soundtrack options to listen to. Let us know which one is your favorite and we’ll acquire the appropriate licenses so we can legally use the music when we create the motion graphics for your video.

6). Illustrations

After your storyboard is approved, it’s time to create the illustrations that will be used for the motion graphics in your video.

motion graphics for video concept art

Video Igniter’s art director will review your brand guidelines and any style references you may have shared. Then, they’ll select a few scenes from your storyboard and create concept art for your motion graphics video.

When you review the concept art, share your honest feedback with the art director. Let them know what you like and dislike about each concept. This way, they can focus on perfecting your favorite visual concept.

Once the concept is approved, the art director will produce all of the custom illustrations for your video. You will get an opportunity to review all the illustrations before we animate the motion graphics for your video.

7). Animation

motion graphics for video animation

Now that everything is approved, it’s time to animate the motion graphics for your video!

It takes about a week to animate 60-seconds worth of motion graphics. If your video is long, we may add additional animators to the project to speed up the animation process. If you need to guarantee delivery in a short amount of time, send us a message and ask us about rush delivery.

As soon as the first draft is ready, you will receive a link to download a copy of your motion graphics. Give them a thorough review with your team, collect everyone’s feedback and send it our way. We’ll integrate your revisions and render out an updated version for you to review and approve.

Optional Bonus Stage: Motion Graphics Post Production

After the motion graphics for your video are approved, there may be additional post production work that we help with, including:

  • Adding subtle sound effects.
  • Editing your animated motion graphics into video footage.
  • Creating captions for your video.
  • Translating your motion graphics into other languages.
  • Exporting your motion graphics into different aspect ratios for different social media platforms.

How much does it cost to create motion graphics for a video?

motion graphics for video cost

Creating motion graphics for a video typically falls within the range of $1,750-$7,500 for 60-seconds worth of 2D content.

If you would like us to make your motion graphics using 3D animation or hand drawn animation, your production budget may be 2x-4x higher.

3D Effects Video Examples

Video Igniter can make any kind of 2D or 3D animation for you. You can see some of our favorite example videos below. For additional production samples, check out our animation portfolio or request access to our demo reels and price sheet.

How To Make A 3D Effects Video With Video Igniter

Whether you want to want to create a video that uses 100% 3D animation or a mix of 3D animation with 2D animation or live action video content, this guide will provide an overview of the production experience so you know what to expect during the production process.

1). Contact Us For A Quote

To start making a video with 3D effects, send us a message or schedule a call with our production team to discuss your project and goals. We’ll work with you to develop a budget and a plan to create your dream video.

3d effects video get a quote

Once we agree to the scope of the project, you will receive a production agreement to sign and an invoice for the first 50% of your production budget.

2). Script

Now that production is underway, we’ll develop the script for your 3D effects video (or we can skip this step if you provide the script).

3d effects video script

If our team needs additional background information to develop your script, we’ll send you questions via email or schedule a call to discuss your key talking points.

For most projects, it takes 1-4 business days to develop the first draft of the script. When the first draft is ready, we will share a digital copy of the script for you to review. You and your team can add your comments directly on the script doc and then send it back to us for revisions. We’ll integrate your edits and then share the 2nd draft of the script with you to review and approve.

If additional edits are needed, we will continue to work with you to revise and polish your script until it’s perfect.

3). Storyboard

3d effects video storyboard

Next, we turn your script into a storyboard for your 3D effects video. The storyboard functions like a blueprint for your video. It tells the illustrators and animators exactly what to create for each scene. This is especially important for videos that include 3D effects. Proper planning and documentation ensures a smooth and accurate production process.

You will receive a copy of the storyboard to review with your time. Give it a detailed review to ensure we have accurately described the 3D effects you want us to create for your video. If there are extra details that need to be shown in the final video, let us know so we can add it to the storyboard.

4). Concept Art

After the storyboard is approved, the art director will oversee the creation of concept art for your 3D effects video. Concept art gives the visual effects team an opportunity to develop and refine overall visual style for your 3D effects video before we spend a lot of time creating all of the scenes for your video. This ensures we end up creating assets that match what you envision.

3d effects video concept art

Video Igniter’s art director will review your brand guidelines and any style references you may have shared. Then, the art director will develop multiple pieces of concept art for your 3D effects video based on scenes from your storyboard.

Even though we’re creating 3D effects for your video, concept art usually starts with 2D illustrations because it’s quicker and easier to develop and polish the visual style using 2D images before creating a 3D version of the concept art.

When the concept art is ready, give it a thoughtful review with your team. Share your honest feedback with the art director about what you like and dislike about each concept. This way, the art director can revise and refine your favorite visual concept until it’s perfect.

3d effects video illustrator

Depending on the nature of the 3D effects that are being created for your video, the art director may take the time to create a 3D version of the concept art, or they may dive in directly to creating the 3D models and effects for your video.

5). Models & Color

Now that the concept art is approved, Video Igniter’s production team can begin work creating all of the 3D characters, scenes, objects and special effects for your video.

At first, you will receive a series of black and white 3D models like this:

3d effects video model

The initial goal is to work with our 3D modelers to let them know what you like and dislike about the shape and form of each model. Our modelers will work with you to revise and polish the models until everything looks perfect.

Then, we’ll add color, texture and shading to all of the 3D models to develop their final appearance. You will get an opportunity to review all of the colorized models and request edits before we animate your 3D effects video.

6). VoiceOver

voiceover

While we’re creating the 3D models for your video, you will receive a selection of voiceover auditions to listen to. Let us know which one is your favorite and we’ll hire that person to record the full voiceover narration for your video.

You will get to listen to a copy of the recording and have an opportunity to request edits (if needed) before we use the voiceover in your 3D effects video.

7). Soundtrack

soundtrack

You will also receive a selection of soundtrack options for your 3D effects video. Give them a listen and let us know which option is your favorite. We’ll acquire the appropriate licenses so we can legally use the music in your video.

8). Animation

Once everything is approved, it’s time to animate your 3D effects video.

Our 3D animators will assemble all of your 3D models into the different scenes for your video. Then, they will animate the 3D models and add special effects that are synced up with the voiceover narration and music.

3d effects video animator

3D animation takes time to do well so this stage will require some patience. Usually it takes more than 1 week to animate 1 minute of 3D video. If your project is longer than a few minutes, we’ll add additional animators to the project to speed up production.

When the first draft is complete, you will receive a link to download your 3D effects video. Give it a detailed review with your team (and ideally members of your target audience). Collect everyone’s feedback and send it to us. We’ll integrate your revisions and render out the new version of your video for you to review and sign off.

9). Post Production

3d effects video post production

Now that the animation is approved, we can help you with any final post production work. This may include:

  • Adding subtle sound effects to your video.
  • Balancing and mastering the audio levels (voiceover + soundtrack + sound effects).
  • Editing your 3D effects video into a larger video made of 2D animation or live action video clips.
  • Translating your video to other languages.
  • Exporting the video in different aspect ratios for different social media platforms.

After all of the post production work is complete, you will receive the final invoice for your 3D effects video. Once the invoice is paid, you will receive the unwatermarked copy of your 3D effects video.

How much does it cost to make a 3D effects video?

3d effects video cost

Many types of 3D animation effects can be produced within the range of $5,000-$35,000 for a 60-second video. That being said, there are many factors at play that will affect the budget of your 3D effects video. If you want to produce cinema quality 3D effects like Transformers, The Matrix and Avatar, a larger budget will be required.

Tips for making a successful 3D effects video

3D animation projects can get complex. Here are a few quick tips to ensure you have a smooth production process.

3d effects video tips

1). Think It Through

Before you hire an animator to create your 3D effects video, we recommend you plan out your video as much as possible. This helps with two things: 1). It will help you pick an animator or studio who is qualified to create the type of 3D effects you envision and 2). It will prevent slowdowns during the production process if you’ve already thought through what you want us to show in your video.

Of course, creative ideas and new inspiration pop up during the production process so you don’t need to have things 100% figured out before you get started – but it certainly helps the production process if you have a well conceived concept in mind before hiring an animator.

2). Start Early

3D animation takes time to do a good job. We recommend starting production as soon as possible so that no phases of the production process are rushed.

production calendar

3). Share Style Examples

Look for examples of other 3D effects videos that are similar to the style and quality you want for your video. Providing visual references makes it faster and easier for the art director to understand and create the visual style you want for your video.

How to save money when you make a 3D effects video

How to make a whiteboard video with Video Igniter

Video Igniter will guide you through 6 production steps to get your idea turned into a custom animated whiteboard video.

1). Contact Us For A Quote

The first thing you need to do to make a whiteboard video is to get in touch with Video Igniter’s production team so we can learn about your project and help you develop a production budget. You can send us a message or schedule a call to speak with us.

After we establish the scope of your project, you will receive a production agreement to sign and an invoice for the first 50% of your production budget.

2). Script

whiteboard video script

Now that production is underway, the first thing we will create for your video is the script. The script functions like the skeleton for your whole video. It helps us establish a logical flow between all of the key talking points in your whiteboard video.

You will receive a copy of the script to review with your team. Send us your feedback and we’ll work with you to revise and polish your script until you love it.

3). Storyboard

whiteboard video storyboard

Next, we turn your script into a storyboard. The storyboard is the blueprint for your whiteboard video. It tells the illustrators and animators exactly what to create for each part of your script.

Each page of your storyboard includes:

  • A sentence from your script.
  • A rough sketch to explain what will be shown visually during each scene.
  • A list of instructions that explain how each scene’s motion design will line up with the voiceover.

You will receive a copy of the storyboard to review with your team. While you review your storyboard, focus on the proposed visuals for each scene. Do they enhance the viewer’s understanding of your key messages? If not, let us know what we should change. Are there specific visual details you want us to include? If so, let us know so we can document them in the storyboard for the illustrators and animators.

4). VoiceOver

voiceover

The voiceover is a key component of your whiteboard video. Without it, we can’t begin animation on your video because everything is animated in sync with your video’s voiceover.

You will receive a handful of voiceover options to listen to. Let us know which one is your favorite and we’ll hire that person to record the full narration for your whiteboard video.

When the audio file becomes available, we’ll share it with you so you can listen to it and request edits before we use it to create your whiteboard video.

5). Soundtrack

soundtrack

You will receive a selection of soundtrack options for your whiteboard video. Give them a listen and let us know which option is your favorite. We’ll take care of acquiring the appropriate license(s) so we can legally use the music in your whiteboard video.

6). Illustration & Animation

whiteboard video illustration and animation

There are two ways to illustrate and animate a whiteboard video.

Initially, whiteboard videos were produced by positioning a camera across from a whiteboard so that the camera can film an illustrator while they draw sketches on a whiteboard. Then, the footage is synced to the voiceover so the illustrations appear during the right part of your voiceover narration.

People still produce this style of whiteboard animation but it isn’t as common as it used to be – mostly because if you want to make changes, it’s trickier to make revisions. It’s also much easier and more cost effective to produce it using 2D computer animation.

These days, most whiteboard videos aren’t actually produced on whiteboards. Instead, animators and illustrators simulate what it would look like if a hand was drawing visuals rather than actually filming someone drawing on a whiteboard.

To achieve this, illustrators will create a series of images that appear like hand drawn images. You will get a chance to review these images and request edits before we animate your video.

Once the art is approved, the animators will animate a photo of a hand holding a pen so that it looks like it’s moving around and drawing images on screen. The hand drawn illustrations will then appear on screen under the fake simulation of a hand drawing on the whiteboard. This process is repeated until all of the footage is produced using animation software. Then, all of the clips will be assembled and synced with the voiceover.

When the first draft of your whiteboard animation is ready to review, you will receive a link to download a copy. Review it with your team and members of your target audience. Collect everyone’s feedback, organize it and send it to us so we can integrate your revision requests. We’ll render out the next draft of your whiteboard animation for you and your team to review and approve.

After the animation gets your sign off, our audio team will take an extra day to add subtle sound effects to enhance key moments in your whiteboard video.

Now that production is underway, our copywriters that specialize in video production for businesses will develop the first draft of your script. If the copywriters need to learn more about what you want to communicate in your video, they may send you a list of questions via email or schedule a call to discuss. Popular questions include:

  • Who is your target audience?
  • What problems do they experience?
  • How does your solution solve their problems?
  • What key messages do you want to include in your video?
  • What do you want your target audience to do when they’re done watching your video?

3). Storyboard

After your script is approved, it’s time to turn your script into a storyboard. Video production for business requires the creation of a storyboard because it enables us to get consensus about what we will create visually. The storyboard essentially functions like a blueprint during the video production process.

Each page of the storyboard contains a sentence from your script, a rough sketch of the scene, and a list of instructions that explain how things will move throughout each scene.

Your team will get an opportunity to review the full storyboard and request edits before we move to the next stage of the video production process.

4). Illustrations

Now that the storyboard is approved the next step in the video production for business workflow is to create the illustrations.

Video Igniter’s art director will review your brand guidelines and style references. Then, they will create multiple pieces of concept art based on scenes from your storyboard.

When you review the concept art, share your honest feedback with the art director. Let them know what you like and dislike about each concept. This way, the artist can refine and polish your favorite visual concept until it’s perfect.

After the concept art gets your approval, the art director will oversee the production of all the illustrations for your business video. You will get an opportunity to review all of the art and ask for edits before we animate your video.

5). VoiceOver

Video production for business includes the creation of a professional voiceover narration to guide your viewers through your key messages. You will receive multiple voiceover auditions to listen to. Let us know which option is your favorite and then we’ll hire that person to record the narration for your business video.

You and your team will get an opportunity to listen to the full recording and request edits (if needed) before we animate your video.

6). Soundtrack

You will also receive a selection of soundtracks to listen to. Let us know which soundtrack best suits your brand’s personality. Then, we’ll acquire the appropriate licenses so we have the rights to use the music in your business video.

Animating a video for your business takes about 1 week for each minute of content we’re producing (so a 1.5 minute video will take about 1.5 weeks). If your video is particularly long, we may add additional animators to speed up the production process. If you need to guarantee delivery in 4 weeks or less, ask us about rush delivery.

When the first draft is ready, you will receive a download link to share with your team. We encourage you to do a deep dive on the video and share it with members of your target audience to collect a wide range of feedback. After you summarize all the revision requests, send them our way and we’ll integrate your edits and render out the final draft of your animation.
